Hardware Components of a Computer system -The internal architectural design of a computer differs from one system model t o another.

However the basic components and their functions are the same for all computer systems. The construction of a typical computer(PC) is very simple. It contains different components. Each components performs a specific function i n the computer. 1.Input Devices -The hardware components that are used to enter data and instructions into the c omputer are called Input Devices. In the old computers Punched card readers and paper tape readers were used as in put devices. Ex: Keyboard, Mouse, Scanner 2.Output Devices -The computer processes the given data to a produce the output. The devices that are used to get output from a computer in readable form are cal led output devices. Ex: Monitor, Speaker, Printer 3.Central Processesing Unit (CPU) -Central Processesing Unit or CPU is the main component of the computer. It is also called processor or microprocessor, the CPU is considered the brain o f the computer. It performs all operations of data according to a program's instruction. the speed of the CPU is measured in Mega Hertz (MHz) or Giga or more. Ex: Central processing Unit 4. Storage Devices -A computer storage device is any type of hardware that stores data. The most common type of storage devices is a hard drive. Ex:Hard disk, DVD, VCD, flashdrive ---------------------------Software Components -Software is the set of instructions that tells the computer what to do. It is called Program. Software is an important component because it gives commands to the computer on what to do or operate. 1.System Software -This is the Backbone of all software. Examples of these are Operating System, Utility Software, and Driver Software. Ex: Windows 7, Windows XP 2.Application Software -these include programs with specific functions or use. Examples of these are Microsoft Office Family, Photo Editing Tools, and Games. Ex: Word, Excel, Powerpoint
