Christopher Nolan & Richard Adoyade

A comparison

Christopher Nolan
Cinematography is very dark and gothic I think he is one of the only visual directors who can capture something that he sees in his own imagination He allows the audience to see exactly what he sees by using particular methods His work through out all the films hes done pushes the boundary's of filmmaking as his ideas and visions of what he wants in his films are not only jaw dropping but at the highest level of dangerour he can put his crew For example

Inception Caf Explosion Scene

Inception Room of Water Scene

Inception Moving Room Scene

The Dark Knight Truck Flip Scene

The Dark Knight Hospital Explosion Scene

These are some of his visions that went into some of his most famous films Inception The dark knight The dark knight rises etc

In The Dark Knight

Cinematography consists of colour and contrast to show the dark and light imagery Nolans composition of shots is impressive because he makes the audience notice things that they wouldnt normally He doesnt always focus on the normal aspects of a shot Visually he uses little CGI and creates the real effect rather than faking it

Richard Aoyade
Also uses a lot of colour and contrast but on a smaller budget than Nolan More personal directorial touch Relates a lot more to the audience Uses 8mm camera in order to make the most of everything

Submarine
The cinematography in Submarine is very personal and less epic than Batman Ive learnt a lot more from him because he films things that I could use in my own film He has a realistic feel to his film rather than going beyond reality, like Nolan Even though its gritty and real, its not the usual type of British realist film one would expect, like Trainspotting or Tyrannosaur or something similar

Examples of submarines composition and colour

Submarine Olivers Room

Submarine Fire Scene

Submarine Final Scene

Submarine Bully Scene

Submarine Fireworks Scene
