WHY DO WE NEED A NEW CURRICULUM TODAY?

The K-12 Program is now practiced in our country. Basically, this new curriculum adds two years to the former 10-year basic education curriculum. So many debates and reviews have been done, and now, it is finally implemented. There are so many reactions since the K-12 Program is proposed. Others find the new curriculum to be important in improving the quality of our basic education. But most of the reactions of the people are negative. Since the K-12 Program offers additional two years before getting into college, people find it as an additional burden. The article Why Does the Philippines Need the K-12 Education System? enumerated reasons why we need to implement the said program. It is stated in the article that subjects under the K-12 curriculum will make its graduates competent on their chosen fields since they have two years (senir high school years) to master the field. Also, the curriculum embraces the international standard which will make K-12 graduates to be globally competitive. Another reason why we have to agree on this program is because of our low performance in international tests. Graduates of the K-12 Program are also employable after graduation since they are expected to graduate by the age of 18. It will already be their choice if they will still pursue a college education degree, or they will go to work with all the competencies they have learned during their secondary education years. It is true that it will not be easy to embrace a new cur4riculum because weve been practicing a 10-year curriculum for a long time now. We have our sides on this proposal. We might see it as a key for educational success for our countrys education. Others may see it as an additional burden. Whatever our reaction may be, the program is already implemented. All w3e have to do now is to pray for its success. Let us see if the graduates will really be competent or not. If yes, then we should be happy. If not, then we should find ways on how we can improve it to make it better.
