Abstract As loo!ed in hind"site at the class PNU101, there #ere $any concepts and ideas that had already learned or !ne#. %here #ere so$e ideas that #ere ne# to $e that attained thro&'h readin's,

disc&ssions, 'ro&p pro(ects, and the N&rse)s L&ncheon. *oncepts, +oth ne# and old, helped $e shape and refine $y ideas of #hat a N&rse is and #hat $y personal vision and n&rsin' philosophy sho&ld +e. Future Path can re$e$+er at the a'e of ei'ht years old, decided to #or! in the field of $edicine. %he desire ca$e #hen #ent to listen to a $issionary spea! at $y ch&rch. He spo!e of the #ays #e co&ld assist not only the people in o&r co&ntry +&t also the people in other co&ntries as #ell. He #as not only a $issionary +&t also a doctor. Most co&ntries #ill per$it a doctor to co$e to their citizen)s aide +&t #ill not allo# a preacher to 'o and preach ,od)s #ord. ne# at that $o$ent that #hen 're# &p #as 'oin'

to help people thro&'h $edicine, as a n&rse or doctor, and at the sa$e ti$e sho# the$, thro&'h $y co$passion and $y #ay of life, that there is a ,od #ho cares for the$. PNU101 has +ro&'ht $e on step closer to achievin' that 'oal. Most important ideas/experiences that related to and influenced me the semester n PNU101 -Notes on N&rsin'. class, #e had $any disc&ssions re'ardin' the '&idelines and concepts set forth +y /lorence Ni'htin'ale in her +oo! -Notes on N&rsin'0 #hat it is and #hat it is not.. Many of /lorence Ni'htin'ale)s '&idelines and concepts #ere not ne# to $e. #as, ho#ever, enli'htened

+y ho# #e !no# a+o&t the s$all tiny steps #e can ta!e to +e healthy yet #e do not do the$. 1ne s$all action of (&st airin' o&t sheets fro$ a feverish patient)s +ed in the $ornin' can chan'e that patient)s life dra$atically. /lorence Ni'htin'ale addressed the topic of cleanliness in the ho&se. t is !no#n that if one !eeps a roo$ sealed sh&t it #ill +eco$e d&sty, sta'nant and 'ive roo$ for or'anis$s to +reed. t $ade $e loo! into $y o#n ho$e #here have children #ith asth$a. as!ed $yself, -can prevent the$ fro$ $ore

Another concept that #as evident in PNU101 #as tea$ #or!. 3e had 'ro&p pro(ects to co$plete as a tea$. %hat helped to sho# &s st&dents that as a n&rse #e #or! as a #hole and not as a sin'le &nit. N&rses $&st #or! to'ether as a tea$ to co$plete a co$$on 'oal. %hat helped prepare &s for o&r f&t&re (o+s. 1ne aspect of PNU101 that really $ade an i$pression &pon $e #as the N&rse)s L&ncheon for the n&rses #ho$ served in 5ietna$. %he $e$ories have of that day #ill al#ays +e en'raved &pon $y heart. %hro&'h the stories and e6periences the veteran)s shared, sho#ed $e that #hether yo& do so$ethin' +i' 7li!e savin' a life8 or so$ethin' s$all 7li!e sayin' -hello. or s$ilin' at a patient8 can not only chan'e their life +&t also yo&r life forever. 1ne veteran told a story a+o&t ho# he chec!ed one +ody +a' #ith a co&ple in it and fo&nd a livin' +a+y in there as #ell. He told of ho# he and his &nit cared for her and #hen it ca$e ti$e for the$ to ret&rn to the United States, they fo&nd a #ay for her to +e adopted and have a +ri'ht f&t&re a#ay fro$ the #ar. Another veteran told a story of ho# she #ent in to a roo$ after her shift to chec! &pon a soldier #ho told her of ho# he had a near death e6perience. He told her of ho# he sa# hi$self a+ove his o#n +ody loo!in' do#n at all his fallen co$rades. He did not !no# ho# to deal #ith the $e$ories he had. %hat n&rse felt co$passion &pon hi$ and +e'an an or'anization to help people deal #ith the e$otions that ca$e #ith havin' a near death e6perience. %he t#o stories a+ove 'o to sho# ho# one action can chan'e the co&rse of the n&rse and the patient)s f&t&re. How has my idea of nursing changed? My idea of n&rsin' has +eco$e $ore defined and foc&sed since have ta!en PNU101. 9efore too! PNU101, #anted to (&st +e a tool to help people 'et #ell. My personal !ision as a health care pro!ider My personal vision as a health care provider #ill +e to find a #ay to help all people #ho see! $edical care to the +est of $y a+ility, !no#led'e and $eans.
