Business Plan Every Womans Life

I. Summary Every Womans Life (EWL) is a program of the Virginia Department of Health and funded through the CDC. It is designed to give free breast and cervical screenings and diagnostic services to low income and/or uninsured women ages 40-64. Recently, the program received funding to treat women ages 18-39 who are symptomatic for breast or cervical cancer. The goal of EWL is to provide breast and cervical cancer screenings and diagnostic services to women already enrolled in the program and to enroll and screen new eligible women. EWL contracts health care providers across the state to offer these services, client education, case management and track/follow up of women in the program. Eligible women are female, Virginia residents, ages 18-64, and have a household income of 200% or less of the federal poverty line. They must be uninsured or underinsured. Women who cannot meet their health insurance deductible are eligible for enrollment. Eligibility is selfdeclared by the patient and those who do not qualify are given a list of community resources for low cost or free screenings. Adopting the EWL program would be beneficial not only to the eligible women, but also to the hospital organization. This program would increase volume growth by capturing new clients (Free clinics, family decisions about options, etc.)Lewis Gale Montgomery would have a heightened community presence by offering services to the underserved population in the area. The community can see HCA as a caring corporation that is a sensitive and communityminded practice. Implementing the EWL program would increase revenue for the hospital by increasing reimbursement for services that are already provided. Women ages 18-39 have reimbursement rate of $400/ woman and women ages 40-64 have reimbursement rate of $320/woman. If cancer is found, the treatment is covered through the Breast and Cervical Cancer Prevention and Treatment Act. Most patients diagnosed will receive Medicaid benefits for the duration of their treatment.
