Most of these terms are included to represent the uncommon and least visited aspects of the English language. The terms stretch across a wide range of concepts that are often left out of English studies, which is why they are included in our English 1101 class. For the most part when someone asks me what I learn in English class, my response is grammar and vocabulary. Never have I thought about responding with world perspectives of the English language or accents among the English language. This is a good opportunity to learn something new about the English language not just within my point of view but from others as well. Would I consider English as a living language? Yes. However, the English language has broken apart into many different categories over the many years it has been in use. In the U.S. or at least from where I am from you hardly hear people speaking proper English. And most people have their own way of speaking it. The big picture is that English is still in fact still a living language and is used on the daily all over the world. The English language differs across the globe as it does from town to town in the U.S. It is really no different. We all have different accents and dialects when speaking the English language but the bottom line is that it is still English. I believe in order to understand the English spoken around the world I must know background cultures and accents of the nations. Also, I would need to learn how to be more open minded and able to have several viewpoints in order to engage in a conversation with someone of another nation.
