Language Arts
Our classes just completed a Personal Opinion essay written on a topic of their choice. The next writing project will be a iterary Opinion essay! where students will describe an opinion they ha"e about a character in a boo#. $n reading! we will be studying nonfiction texts and discussing how to analy%e the information in them.

Social Studies
The classes will continue their study of &uropean &xplorers! and will present their research to their classmates with a PowerPoint presentation. The 5th graders will then begin to thin# about what happened to the &xplorers who decided to stay in North 'merica (early settlements).

Mathematics
*tudents will be wor#ing on a fraction unit! which will include adding and subtracting fractions with li#e and unli#e denominators. They will access real world problems! and will determine what methods wor# to sol"e them.

Science
This month we are finishing our unit on &lectricity and +agnetism. *tudents will recogni%e that electricity is a form of energy! and that electricity can be transferred into other forms of energy (light! heat! etc.). ,e will be creating a design for wiring a -house. in a shoebox.
