Welcome to a Regular Public Meeting of the Lower Merion Board of School Directors

The Board believes it is in its best interest and the best interest of the students of the District
to hear comments from members of the public. It has been, therefore, a long-standing
practice of the Board to encourage and allow residents to speak at the public meeting, prior
to the Board vote on agenda items, by notifying the Board Secretary. In the interest of time,
each speaker is limited to three minutes. It is the policy of the Board not to engage in
dialogue with or respond to questions from the audience during the meeting. All or a
portion of the meeting is being video recorded for purpose of public broadcast.

RECOMMENDED ACTION - The Superintendent recommends that the Board of School


Directors approves the Human Resource actions as listed in Exhibits #HR-1 - #HR-10.

a. End of Assignments/Resignations/Retirements/Terminations as per Exhibit #HR-1

c. Appointments – Professional Staff as per Exhibit #HR-3

Contract for Consulting Services


The administration recommends that the Board of School Directors approves the
contract with David Robinson to provide assistance with writing projects and district
publications to the School and Community Relations Department as per Exhibit #HR-9.

Contract for Consulting Services


The administration recommends that the Board of School Directors approves the
contract with Richard Trzaska to provide consulting services as per Exhibit #HR-10.

Correction/Change
a. Staci Dougherty, Grade 2, Cynwyd Elementary School, salary for the 2009-2010
school year was previously listed as $50,703 and should have been $51,703.
b. Debra McMurtrie, Summer Bus Aide, Transportation, ending date was stated July 31,
2009 and should have been August 7, 2009.

Death Notice
Mary C. Davis, Food Service Worker, Welsh Valley Middle School, died on June 9, 2009. Ms.
Davis was employed in Lower Merion School District from September 1964 to June 1983.

3. PUPIL SERVICES

RECOMMENDED ACTION - The Administration recommends that the Board of School


Directors approves the Pupil Services items as listed: Agreements for Students
Receiving Non-District Educational Services as per Exhibits #PS-1 through #PS-11.

a) Students (#PS-1 through #PS-11) are in need of accessing educational programs or


services not typically provided within the public school system in order for the district to
meet its legal obligation of providing these students with an appropriate education.

RECOMMENDED ACTION - The administration recommends that the Board of School


Directors approves the overnight trips attached as per Exhibits #CS-1 – CS-3.

Board approval is required for overnight trips that are extensions of the school program.

5. BUSINESS OFFICE AND FINANCE

RECOMMENDED ACTION - Approve List of Bills for Payment

RECOMMENDED ACTION - Approve Financial Report, July 2009

RECOMMENDED ACTION - Receive Lower Merion High School’s Fourth Quarter


Athletic and Activity Reports, per Exhibit #BF-1.

RECOMMENDED ACTION - The administration recommends that the Board of School


Directors approves the Lease Agreement By and Between Lower Merion School
District and Montgomery Early Learning Centers for the school year 2009-10
(September 1, 2009 through June 30, 2010) for use of space in the elementary schools
for the operation of before and after school child care programs, per Exhibit #BF-2.

Approve Montgomery Early Learning Centers Agreement


Montgomery Early Learning Centers has been providing day care services in the School
District for several years.

6. FACILITIES AND OPERATIONS

RECOMMENDED ACTION – The Administration recommends that the Board of School


Directors does hereby resolve as follows:

1) The Board of School Directors of this School District does award the contract to the
bidders named in Exhibit #FO-1 for 2009-10 Tri County Food Service Disposal &
Cleaning Products for the amounts and contracts specified therein as the lowest
responsible bidders in accordance with contract specifications conditioned upon receipt
by this School District of all necessary contract documents properly executed and in
proper form.

And, Be It Further Resolved, that the proper officers of this School District are hereby
authorized to do all things necessary to carry out the intent and purposes of this
resolution including the execution of all necessary documents.

a. Award Contracts
Bids have been advertised, received, opened, read and considered and the Board’s
Purchasing Committee has reviewed the bids in detail.

RECOMMENDED ACTION – The administration recommends that the Board of School


Directors approves for submission PlanCon Part H: Project Financing to the Pennsylvania
Department of Education for Lower Merion High School, per Exhibit #FO-2.

b. Submission of PlanCon Part H: Project Financing
As part of the PlanCon process, the School Board is required to approve and submit
PlanCon Part H: Project Financing to the Pennsylvania Department of Education for
Lower Merion High School.

RECOMMENDED ACTION - The Administration recommends that the Board of School


Directors accepts a donation from the parents of Chanlan Lee for the construction of a
Library Reading Alcove in Gladwyne Elementary School in Memory of their son,
Chanlan Lee.

c. Accept Donation

Theft and Vandalism

Penn Valley – Vandals wrote graffiti on four school building exit doors. The cost of labor
and material to remove the graffiti was $191.

Lower Merion – Vandals wrote graffiti on the walls and partitions in the boys’ bathroom
on the 3rd floor, old wing. The cost of labor and material to remove the graffiti was $600.
