A system to identify the needs of students and offer instructions and interventions identified at an early stage Most important components of RTI o High quality instruction for all o Frequent monitoring based on statistics Its not o New o Special education o Tracking system o Assessment o Not a program Essential elements of RTI o Focused on learning, not teaching (or teaching technique) o Cultural collaboration o Identify the needs of each student EARLY o Constant evaluation (every week) o a systematic way to respond when students are not learning Three Tiers in RTI o Tier 1 (instruction level 1) everybody receives within regular instructional day o Tier 2 (730 in the morning) for students who have needs in addition to tier 1 o Tier 3 very specific in addition to tier 1 and 2 looks more like a special ed
