Dear Classmates,

I would like to start off this letter my sharing my beliefs about writing. To me writing is used in many ways to express feelings, share information, and show ones understanding. These beliefs came from my 12 years of schooling, and also just from everyday life. I have been told writers should never begin a sentence with but, or and. My teachers shared this information with me. I dont think as myself as a writer, although I do sometimes like to write mostly I just write when I have an assignment. Facebook, Twitter, and texting are probably the three main ways I use writing. I occasionally write letters to friends and family but not very often. English is my only language, I took French in high school but only learned the basics of the language. I hope to be fluent in a second language in the future to help with my career. This semester I hope to

work on being able to get all my thoughts into my writings, I struggle with expressing my thoughts while writing. Im easy to get along with and also a good listener. Im from Gastonia, North Carolina, which is about twenty minutes from Charlotte. I live on campus in Moore hall. Im currently majoring in Kinesiology but plan on changing my major to nursing. One question I have for the class is, "What are some other things you have been told not to do in writing?"
