The Pines as Peter Saw It

An early, brisk Friday morning last week had Pete

Langen out walking his pooch in the Pines Recreation
Area. Always with his Nikon, he took some great
photos. Above is the steam rising off Fort Peck
Reservoir at sunrise. And at right, those are no small
cat tracks. The track he found right in the recreation
area covered a span of six inches on the seveninch ruler. Pete did report the finding to the Montana
Fish, Wildlife & Parks. So those spending time in
the general vicinity of the Pines, be extra cautious,
especially if having kids or pets along theres at
least one mountain lion roaming the area!
(Check out BS Central on facebook for the above
photo in its spectacular colors.)

This past Saturday, the Glasgow High School Speech
and Drama team competed in the Roundup B & C
Invitational against 13 other teams. It is not often that
Glasgow is able to compete against southern teams such
as Sweetgrass, Columbus and White Sulfur Springs. The
next time Glasgow will see these teams will be at the State
B competition early in 2014, which is being hosted in
Glasgow.
The team brought home the third-place trophy for
Drama. This is due to the efforts of our remarkable drama
competitors, including: Kylie Cook who took home
the first place medal for serious solo for third straight
meet with her piece The Button. Michaela Cathey was
particularly remarkable, improving on her previous
pantomime placement from last week at third to second
place this week.

Individual placements in Drama were:
Pantomime: Bridger Sanders-third; Serious Solo: Amanda
Kresal fourth; Serious Duo: Kat Geer and Kayla
Harrington third; Humorous Duo: Amanda McDonald
and Paige Schmidt fifth. James Fauth and Rachel Overby
also competed in Humorous Duo.

On the speech side, Rachel Sigmundstad again placed
second in Spontaneous Oral Interpretation. A new team
member, Amber OMara competed in Humorous Oral
Interpretation and placed 4th overall against twelve other
competitors.

Individual placements in Speech were:
Humorous Oral Interpretation: Andy Brandt sixth;
Serious Oral Interpretation: Ethan Jamba third;
Spontaneous Oral Interpretation: Maria Morris fourth;
Original Oratory: Max Knodel third. Also competing
speech was Sija Laffin in Serious Oral Interpretation

The team will be home for the Thanksgiving break, but
will be competing next in Havre on Saturday, December
7th.

KDs Corner

After a hardy rainstorm filled all the potholes in the
streets and alleys, a young mother watched her two little
boys playing in the puddles through her kitchen window.

The older of the two, a five year old lad, grabbed his
sibling by the back of his head and shoved his face into
the water hole.
As the boy recovered and stood laughing and
dripping, the mother ran to the yard in a panic.

Why on earth did you do that to your little brother?!
she asked as she shook the older boy in anger.

We were just playing church mommy, he said, I
was just baptizing him.....in the name of the Father, the
Son and in the hole-he-goes.

Glasgow Kiwanis Announces 2013 4-H Awards

The goal of 4-H youth programming is to provide developmentally
appropriate opportunities for young
people to experience life skills, to
practice them until they are learned,
and be able to use them as necessary
throughout a lifetime.
Each year Kiwanis recognizes
4-H clubs in Valley county. The
Kiwanis 4-H Award is selected
based on:
1. Total members per club
2. Total members completing their
record books and receiving a
gold seal
3. Total number of members

entering project work in the fair

4. The completion of a community
service booth showing the
service the club has done in the
community over the past year.
Valley County 4-H strives to
meet this goal through activities
which promote learning, leadership,
building self confidence and service
to others. 4-H works toward a
county wide community service
project each year with members
from all areas working together to
better our community.
4-H provides members with

the opportunities to build self

confidence, improve public speaking
abilities, practice communication
skills, work toward positive decision
making and experience conflict
management.
We appreciate the support and
encouragement Kiwanis show the
4-H program in Valley County and
strive to continue to live up to the
ideals you have set for us.
The 2013 winners are: 4th
place, Four Leaf Clover; 3rd place:
Jackalopes; 2nd place: Lucky Clover;
and top honors, 1st place, to the
Tampico Boys.

GED classes no longer being held

here but GED test still being given

HAPPY
THANKSGIVING!

by Linda Dingman

I began teaching the GED classes in Glasgow in the
fall of 2013. It has been a rewarding experience and I
thoroughly enjoyed teaching the GED. I would get such
a feeling of accomplishment when a student got their
GED. Most of my students were able to get better jobs
and some went on to college or some sort of technical
training. What an accomplishment on their part.
Three or four years ago Glasgow lost its funding
for the GED class. I continued to hold class one day a
week since that time. However, as with all of life things
change. It has become more difficult for me to get down
to Job Service to hold class. I also have a granddaughter
that I am babysitting. Although there will no longer be
GED classes taught in class, the GED test will still be
given.
There are very good internet sites you can use to
prepare for the GED:
http://www.gedforfree.com
http://www.gedtestingservice.com/testers/test-oncomputer
http://diplomaaccomplished.com
I think the first two are free, but I am not sure. I
did not want to do an application. If you do not have a
computer, you can always go to the library and use their
computers.
Remember the GED TEST WILL STILL BE
GIVEN IN GLASGOW. You can call Mike at Glasgow
Job Service, 228-9369, and he will get you started on the
testing process.
