Teaching Statement Teaching has been a crucial and complementary aspect to my research during my time as a graduate student at Essex. I began teaching classes in the rst year of my doctoral degree, covering intermediate undergraduate courses in Mathematics and Macroeconomics. Throughout the years, I have also taught classes for modules in Financial Innovations and Monetary Policy, an undergraduate course covering modern central bank policy, as well as Introduction to Economics and Mathematical Methods at the graduate level. I have been assigned senior teaching assistant positions regularly and have been the senior TA for the MSc course in Mathematical Methods for the past two years. Apart from the rewarding aspect of ensuring students consolidated the knowledge acquired in their lectures by guiding through the resolution of practical exercises, the many interesting questions they posed in the process have been invaluable to sharpen my focus on important research questions and open debates in contemporary macroeconomics. The positive feedback Ive received from students has been generally very positive and was recognised by the Department in the academic year of 2011/12, when I was awarded an award for excellence in teaching reserved for the highest ranking teaching assistant in the department. In addition to my responsibilities as a teaching assistant, in the academic year of 2013/14 I will be taking on the position of lecturer for two courses in the Department of Economics. While both courses concern the same eld, open economy macroeconomics, one of these is directed towards nal year undergraduate students while the other is an advanced version for masters degree candidates at the Department. I am very much looking forward to this challenge and relishing the opportunity of acquiring important teaching experience at a higher level of responsibility. I am informed at two of my references discuss their views on my handling of teaching responsibilities, so I would refer interested parties to those opinions. I would heartily welcome future discussion on this topic.
