Lesson # __4___ Date and Time of Lesson: 11/21/2013

Students will participate in the guided reading lesson that will focus on QAR right there questions. This will help students improve on their reading comprehension skills, and how to ask questions and find answers in the text. Students will be able to create three right there questions from the text they have read correctly 3 out of 3 times.

Alignment with Standards: CCSS.ELA-Literacy.RL.6.10 By the end of the year, read and comprehend literature, including stories, dramas, and poems, in the grades 68 text complexity band proficiently, with scaffolding as needed at the high end of the range. Developmental Appropriateness or Cross-curricular connections: This learning objective is developmentally appropriate for the students because they are learning to look deeper into the text and need to understand how to answer questions about a text. Comprehension is a skill that students have been working on in previous grades and will continue to build on. Students can use the QRA strategy in all subject areas when given work sheets or text where they can use the book to answer the questions. Assessment(s) of the Objectives: What assessment(s) will you use to determine student learning (pre, during, post)?
Each objective should be aligned with an assessment. Lesson Objective(s) Assessment(s) of the Objective(s) Pre-Assessment- The teacher will informally assess the students during other lessons. During- Assessment- The students will be monitored by the teacher as the lesson progressives. Post- Assessment- Students will be asked three questions what is a right there question? What does the word flicker mean? and Write a short summary of the story. Use of Formative Assessment I would use this assessment to drive my next lessons. Once the students grasped right there questions, I would move on to think and search and on my own question. This will help students with comprehension by getting the students to think beyond the text. This will also help students when they have to answer worksheets and tests where a text can be used as a reference.

After participating in the guided reading lesson, students will be able to create three right there questions from text they have read correctly 3 out of 3 times.

Accommodations: Students will be in a small group setting, which helps with their attention and focus during
instructional time. When given the quick write the students will have the questions read to them and written on the paper. Students quick writes will be assessed base on the students writing abilities.

Materials: Whiteboard, dry erase marker, Getting Around books, quick write sheet, pencil and sticky notes.

Activity Analysis: 1. Students will be introduced to a new vocabulary word and the teacher will give the definition to the students to avoid students learning/hearing a wrong definition. Then students will be asked to restate it to make sure they understand it. Then they will apply it to a situation that has happened in the past. This will help students relate the new word to their own schema. 2. Creating right there questions- This related back to the lesson objective because it helps students comprehend the text along with answering text based questions for other class work. Students will explore the text in a manner that allows them to think deeper about the text. This is needed for the students in other subject areas such as social studies and science. -Technology will not be used in this lesson because the lesson is following the guided reading method.
