Reflective Analysis of Portfolio Artifact Rationale/Reflection NAEYC Standard: STANDARD 2.

BUILDING FAMILY AND COMMUNITY RELATIONSHIPS Candidates prepared in early childhood degree programs understand that successful early childhood education depends upon partnerships with childrens families and communities. They know about, understand, and value the importance and complex characteristics of childrens families and communities. They use this understanding to create respectful, reciprocal relationships that support and empower families, and to involve all families in their childrens development and learning (N !"C, #$%$&. Brief Description of Evidence: 'n my !C!( #$) Families in Transition course during the fall semester of #$%*, ' worked collaboratively with a small group to generate a family and search for ways to work through the trials and needs of the family. +e worked to locate resources to allow the family to create respectful relationships within the family and the community. 'n the process of this pro,ect we were able to construct diverse resources that would support families being involved with their childs development and learning. Analysis of What I earned: s a result of completing this pro,ect, ' was made aware of the vast number of resources available to families. ' learned how several of these resources partner with families and the community which resulted in my understanding of forming positive, mutual partnerships with families of children ' am in contact with. Through the presentations of my fellow classmates, ' came to reali-e the diverse needs of the many different types of families. !o" #his Artifact De$onstrates $y Co$petence on the NAEYC Standard: .y researching local resources ' was able to see how families can be helped through the community. ' was able to see how communities have diverse characteristics and ' was also able to see the need for recogni-ing these differences in families and communities. ' am competent in my ability to search for local resources and ,oin together with diverse families as they work to support and better their childrens development and learning. (iscovering these resources has challenged me to encourage families to be involved in the school and partner with the community for the sake of the children and their development.
