MAP 101
MAP= Measures of Academic Progress Northwest Evaluation Association

MAP 101
Identifies your childs academic progress and creates a comparison of: *Your childs growth over time *Your childs progress compared to students at our school. *Your childs progress compared to other third graders who have taken the test.

115C-83.1A. State goal The goal of the State is to ensure that every student read at or above grade level by the end of third grade and continue to progress in reading proficiency so that he or she can read, comprehend, integrate, and apply complex texts needed for secondary education and career success.

7 Components of Read to Achieve


1. Developmental Screening in Kindergarten Entry Assessment (KEA)

2. Elimination of Social Promotion


3. Successful Reading Development for Retained Students 4. Parent/Guardian Notification

5. Accountability Measures
6. Comprehensive Reading Plan 7. Facilitating Early Grade Reading Proficiency

What impacts your child


1. Third Grade students who do NOT pass the End of Grade reading test will be retained. 2. Parents must be notified if their student is not reading at grade level. 3. Teachers must create an Action Plan for students who are below grade level.

Third Grade Retention Exceptions


1. Students with an Individualized Education Plan. 2. Students who have limited English proficiency. 3. Students who have passed a NC approved alternative reading assessment. 4. Students who demonstrate through a portfolio that they have reading proficiency appropriate for third grade. 5. Previously retained students.

Parent Notification
* Parents will receive mClass assessment scores about the same time MAP scores are released. * Parents whose students are below grade level will also receive a letter stating their childs reading level and the possibility of retention.
