Overall Goal of Lesson: Students will read and comprehend story. Students will be able to summarize the story without plagiarizing. Instructional Objectives: Students will write a summary of the story, hitting at least 3 main points, without copying from the book, with 70% accuracy. Texas Essential Knowledge & Skills (TEKS) & ELPS: (typed out completely) 110.14 (b) (8) (A) Sequence
and summarize the plots main events and explain their influence on future events.

Key Vocabulary: Kittens, ribbon, catnip, limit, until, happen, button, lesson, hidden, pocket, basket, puppet

Higher Order Questions: Summarize the story in your own words. Describe 3 main points to the story. Student Activities: (Keep in mind the following: Scaffolding, Independent or Cooperative activities, Groupings, Reading,
Writing, Listening, Hands-On/Minds-On, Connections to previous knowledge, etc) Review the vocabulary words (blend words with closed syllable patterns), paired read the story, review the story, write summary of the story.

Modifications/ELL Strategies Write only one paragraph. Remind students how to make a good sentence. Remind students not to plagiarize. Time Allotted 10 Min

Anticipatory Activity for Lesson: Review vocabulary words and sort them by patterns (blend words with closed syllable patterns)

Teacher Input/Lesson Activity: Students take turns reading pages out of the story.

Modeling: I will review what summarizing is. Guided Practice: Class discussion over the book. Independent Practice: Students will write their own summaries of the story. Lesson Closure: Students will read their summaries out loud. Assessment Methods/Strategies: Grade the summaries. Students must not plagiarize and must list at least three main points of the story.
