Greenwich Country Day School Old Church Road, P.O.

Box 623 Greenwich, CT 06830 May 16, 2013 Recommendation for Nicholas R. Manfredi It is with pleasure I write this letter of recommendation for Nicholas Manfredi for the University of Cincinnati Masters of Education in Foundations in Behavioral Analysis. I have known Nick for seven months in my capacity as a third grade head teacher at the Greenwich Country Day School. This year Nick has been my co-teacher, and I have had the delight in sharing the classroom with him full-time each day. Nick has been responsible for the social studies classes. In addition, he assisted in all subjects during the school day, including language arts, reading, math, and science. Nicks background as an occupational therapist aide and expertise in dealing with children with Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder and autism are extremely helpful in the classroom this year. His classroom management skills are the finest I have seen in a co-teacher. Nick is fair, treats the children equally, respects them, and helps them through difficult emotional situations. Several of our students are ADD, and have executive functioning disorder, and information and sensory processing issues. Nick has the patience and experience to guide these students through daily tasks. Also, he has voluntarily prepared Morning Meeting exercises addressing the daily social and emotional issues. The children enjoy his activities, and have benefited from his knowledge. Nick planned, collaborated, and implemented the social studies curriculum with a team of three other co-teachers for the first term, and has worked independently since January. He designs lessons using a variety of methods including Smartboard PowerPoint slide presentations, games, art projects, discussions, books, and computer programs. Nick is prepared and informed, and his classes are cross-curricular and hands-on, and reach the varying ability levels, interests, and personalities in our class. The sessions encourage dialogue and debate among the classmates as they apply knowledge learned during the units. Every day I enjoyed Nicks genuine interest in the students, and desire to learn more about the school and the teaching profession. He works collaboratively with me daily in the classroom. Each trimester Nick has worked with me to write narrative reports on the students, and added specific details and stories about the children during conferences with their parents. I am fortunate to have had the opportunity to work with Nick this year, and chose to work with him again next year. Nick Manfredi will be an asset to the University of Cincinnati Masters program and I recommend him without hesitation. Elizabeth P. Lowe !
