CHIRICAHUA LEOPARD FROG // LITHOBATES CHIRICAHUENSIS

The chiricahua leopard frogs are about four inches in length and appears in green or brown with small, dark spots. They are native to Mexico, Arizona, and New Mexico, but now they are only to be found in man-made waters, and streams and springs that lack introduced predators. Their population was decreased massively due to habitat loss, introduction to new species, and disease. Over 80 percent of their species are now gone. Its natural habitat is in temperate forests, rivers, swamps, and freshwater lakes, marshes, springs, and open excavations.

The mountain lion also known as the puma, cougar, panther, catamount, and puma concolor ranges from 7ft to 8ft long depending on its gender. They were originally found throughout the western hemisphere from northern British Columbia to Patagonia and from Atlantic coast to the Pacific coast, but now they are only found around the western half of the United States. Since the 1500s, mountain lions have been persecuted and hunted by people. By the early 1800s the entire population was on the brink of extinction in the eastern U.S. and by the early 1900s the population located west of the U.S. was severely decreased due to overexploitation (overkill). Its natural habitat ranges from forests to lowlands, and montate deserts.

The Florida Torreya also known as the Florida Nutmeg Tree, Gopherwood, Stinking Cedar are located in Southeastern United States along the state border region of northern Florida and Southwestern Georgia. This is an evergreen tree that historically has grown to 60ft, but now it is rare to be that height. In the early 1950s the population was estimated to be around 600,000, but the current population size is now between 500 and 600. These trees are unable to adulthood to reproduce due to a fungal disease, which causes the population to decrease. Its natural habitat consist of regions with a warm and humid climate.
