Daily Lesson Plan Form

Grade Level: 9th Date: October 2, 2013

Overall Goal of Lesson: Students will recognize direct and inverse variations and will know the proportionality of each inverse function. Instructional Objectives: Students compare and contrast multiple representations of inverse functions Texas Essential Knowledge & Skills (TEKS) & ELPS: Key Vocabulary: Direct Variation Inverse Variation

111.32. (b) (11).(B) Quadratic and other nonlinear functions. The student understands there are situations modeled by functions that are neither linear nor quadratic and models the situations. The student is expected to analyze data and represent situations involving inverse variation using concrete models, tables, graphs, or algebraic methods Higher Order Questions: What is the easiest representation for you to interpret What happens in te table when x=1? What happens to the graph at it approaches 0? What does the table show when x=0? What happens to the graph as the numerator gets larger? Student Activities: Students are to work in pairs, and cut apart the Inverse Match Card Sort and match the equation o the appropriate graph, table, and constant of the proportionality. Students will then compare results with their partner and glue the matched cards to their recording sheets in the appropriate boxes. Modifications/ELL Strategies Students will receive typed notes and extend amount of time(if needed) Time Allotted 10 mins 2 mins Anticipatory Activity for Lesson: Inverse Match Card worksheets

Teacher Input/Lesson Activity: Review of Direct and Indirect variations and solving equations. Place students in groups of two and distribute handouts, scissors and glue. Modeling: Instruct students to match the data from cards to the worksheets Guided Practice: Work through the first problem of the worksheet.
