Chapter 3 Organization of data

Classification of data: It is a technique with the help of which collected data is divided into various groups to facilitate the analysis, tabulation and interpretation. Types of classification of data: 1. Geographical classification - When data is classified according to area or play is called geographical classification. 2. Qualitative classification When data is classified according to sex, honesty, color, literacy etc. is known as qualitative classification. 3. Quantitative classification When data is classified according to height, weight, mass, income, expenditure, family, no: of children etc. such a classification is called quantitative classification. 4. Chronological classification Classification of data according to time is called chronological classification. Here data is classified in ascending or descending order with reference to time such as year, quarters, month etc. 5. Spatial classification Classification with reference to geographical location such as country, states, district etc. Variables: Quality varying from one individual to another is termed as variable. Types of variables: 1. Continuous variables: It takes only one numerical value. 2. Discrete variables: It takes a certain value.

Frequency distribution: It refers to the technique by which similar variables are bunches or grouped in different statistical series.
