What student prior knowledge will this lesson require/draw upon? Students must have the prior knowledge of knowing what holidays and traditions are. It may help if they know some of the different celebrations celebrated by different cultures, but not in detail. That is what the research and presentations are for. How will you engage students in imagining, exploring, and/or experimenting in this lesson? Students will explore any tradition or holiday that they are interested in and experiment with Styrofoam printmaking and different ideas of holiday/tradition expression. How will this lesson allow for/encourage students to solve problems in divergent ways? By being able to look at and research any holiday or tradition of different cultures they wanted to, this allows them to make their own thoughtful decisions, which is an important part of problem solving. Also, researching and learning about varying cultures allows students to look at things from all different perspectives. How will you engage students in routinely reflecting on their learning? We will continually talk about different norms and traditions that are present in other cultures that compare with the norms and lifestyles of things they do in their every day lives.
