ELEPHANT ABCDEFGHIJKLMNOPQRSTUVWXYZ abcdefghijklmnopqrstuvwxyz 1234567890 Typeface Author: Matthew Carter History: Elephant is a careful re-working of a traditional English extra-bold serif style. Originally, Elephant appeared in posters, often alternating from roman to italic on successive lines. In Europe, typefaces of this kind still may be used in very small sizes for telephone numbers in letterheads and business cards. (from Fonts.com) Choice: Because my topic is percussion instruments, I wanted a font that carries a certain amount of mass/weight. However because instruments themselves were often ornate and detailed, I didnt want the font itself to so peculiar as to compete with the images. NOTES Audience: This poster is intended for a general audience curious about instruments. Message: This showcases the variety of percussive instruments from around the world beyond the commonly known percussion instruments used in pop culture. I also had researched countries of origin and the method of sound production (idiophone or membranophone) but chose at the end to cut these out to maintain free space.
