Discourse Community Challenge There are many challenges in almost all discourse communities and groups.

A discourse community is a group/community that has their own lexis and that works towards a common goal. For example, Young Life is a very complicated community. The Young Life leaders are a part of a discourse community while the Young Life members are a part of a community of practice. Many people dont understand what Young Life means or what their goals are. Young Life is Christian based community, people join to further their relationship with Christ. The Young Life leaders already have a relationship with Christ and are trying to get students to further their relationship with him as well. Many outsiders think that since a person is involved with YL and is a member of YL then they have to be this perfect Christian that doesnt do anything wrong. When in reality thats not what happens at all. Members are Christians but they still mess up and have their faults, they still do things that arent Christian like but still strive to know God. When youre a new member in Young Life its difficult to understand their goals, motives, lexis and many other things. And thats the same for all discourse communities and communities of practice.
