CHDV 150 Introduction to Curriculum Small Group Activity Form

Name of Activity: Collage Story

Curriculum Area:

Art

Length of Activity: 15-20minutes

Learning Objectives Child will be able to create patterns with lines, shapes and texture (Measure 36) Child will be able to create a collage.(Measure 31) Child will be able describe the visual characteristics of their own art work(Measure 2)

Material/Equipment Needed: Boxes (All Sizes) Paint Glue Paper Glitter Confetti Preparation (What do you need to do beforehand?): Set up the activity Make sure all the materials are clean Make sure all the materials are age appropriate

Procedures (step by step) Be Specific *Beginning (How will I introduce activity?) I will give a warning during the large group activity that the Animal Creator activity will be next I will introduce this activity in the beginning of class I will introduce this activity by talking about animals, colors, shapes and asking open-ended questions. Afterwards I will allow few of them to start the activity

*Middle: (How will I support/enhance/scaffold?) The person reading your lesson plan should be able to identify what you are saying or doing to support your stated learning objectives. THIS IS VERY IMPORTANT. As the children begin to use the materials I will support them by making sure they understand how to use them in this activity. The child will be able to use a box to create tell a story. There will be varies textures that the child can use. I will tell them, You can use any material on this table to create your story. I will also record the childs story, as they tell it. I will ask the child, Can you tell me which shape you are using to create your boxed collage? I will support the child by guiding them through the process of making a line, shape. I will say to the child, You can put all the colors or shapes that represent tell your story? I will ask the child to add all self-created art to one paper. I will tell the child, I will tell the child, You can use every side of the box. During the process I will ask the child, What story does your collage tell? I will write down the story the child tells me. I will also ask, Can you tell me what colors you used? When a child needs individual help with gluing I would say, Would you like me to help you open the glue? if the child needs help with his/her collage. I will ask before assisting, Would you like me to help you? During the project, I will have the child working with each other by having all the items on one table at everyones reach. *End: (How will I bring this activity to a conclusion and transition to the next activity? Be very specific in how you will transition the children.) I will give the children a 5 minute warning, so they know the activity is coming to an end. I will ask them to share what they thought about the activity I will ask for feedback about the activity, like if they enjoyed themselves I will ask the children to help clean up I will ask the child to make their animal sounds as they move on to the next activity The child will go to science center after this activity Throughout the day/week, what opportunities will the children have to reflect back on this activity? During the day the child will be able to reflect on the activity at their own will while in the science center. I will have a texture based activity in the next center area. When the child enters the classroom, they will see pictures of themselves doing the activity. I will ask them Can you name all the colors you used? I will record the childs story and add the collage, pictures of the activity together to create a book for the child.
