Progress of Whole Class from Pre- to PostAssessments

12% 8% Met Stayed the same Not Met 80%

The chart above summarizes the progress of the whole class from the pre- to post-assessment. The students were given an assessment before and after I taught my lessons. The pre- and postassessments on Rocks and Minerals scores were combined. Out of twenty-one students, 80 % that met the criterion, two students, which is 8%, that stayed the same. The other part of the chart shows that there were three students, which is 12%, that did not meet the criterion. Individuals: The importance of understanding the learning of these three students is to help me as a teacher to know what I need to incorporate in my lesson. It is important to know how I need to teach so that these students will understand what they are learning. Its also important to understand the learning of these students because I will need to know where the students stand in the class. Qualitative Data:

The high student made a huge improvement from the pre-assessments to the post-assessments. This student always paid attention in class. He would always volunteer to answer questions during the lesson and would answer the questions correctly. When he did not understand something in the lesson he would always raise his hand and ask for help. He is always studying his notes when he knows that he has a test coming up. The average student made a small improvement from the pre-assessments to the postassessments. She would have her times when she was not focused and would talk to her friend. I had to call on her to focus a couple of times during my lessons. There would be times when I would call on her to answer a question and she could not answer it. I believe that she could have done better if she was not sitting with her best friend. She also had a few times where she was very engaged in the lessons and activities. I believe she was engaged because the activities were hands-on activities which is something enjoys. The low student surprised me just a little. I was not expecting her to do so well. I was so proud of her when I saw her pre-assessments and post-assessments. She has ADHD which causes her to not focus and pay attention quickly. If she is not on her medication then she will become very disruptive in the class. During my entire unit she was on her medication and she was very engaged in the lessons and activities. She enjoys doing hands-on activities which is part of the reason she did so well on her assessments. She was also paying attention during instruction which is another reason she did well. The work samples also shows how the students made improvement from the pre-assessment to the post-assessment.
