FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE October 18th, 2013 Please Contact: Holly Jennings jenningsh@rider.edu

A New Star Rises and Shines to Lead Rider Dance Ensemble: Ashley Miller Appointed to President LAWRENCEVILLE, NJ Rider Dance Ensemble appointed Ashley Miller to be president of the organization last April. She succeeded Kate Mina, whom she used as a model to learn about the responsibilities of being the president in the organization. Miller will report directly to RDE Advisor Cherilyn Barbone. Miller, 20, focuses on coordinating the dance groups fall show as well planning events. She is responsible for choosing the fall shows central theme, which is to be announced sometime this week. Ashley chooses the outfits that the dancers will be wearing onstage, as well. All aspects of RDE, including lighting the night of the show, song choices, and event proposals need to be approved by Miller. She also plans summer workshops to ease the transition of college life for incoming freshman. Her commitment to the organization and helping others as well as her dance experience will make her a great president, Barbone said. Miller has 17 years of dance experience that complement her double major in dance and elementary education. Shes been an active member of RDE since the summer before she entered her freshman year of college. Although Miller has a rich background in dance, her immediate plans after college include becoming an elementary school teacher. After establishing herself in a teaching career, she wants to return some of her focus back to dancing to become a choreographer and dance instructor. Miller resides in Old Bridge, NJ with her two younger sisters. Since becoming an independent student-organization at Rider University in 2010, the Rider Dance Ensemble (RDE) has performed various student-choreographed shows as a way to promote creative expression. The organization also hosts workshops during the last week of summer and participates in community service. RDE is open to all students interested in dance, and everyone who auditions is accepted. ###
