According to the article, idling of vehicles contributes heavily to the amount of harmful pollution in air and has been linked to major health issues. The article focuses mainly on the Washtenaw County area, specifically the city of Ann Arbor, but it is mentioned that many other areas in Michigan have been dealing with a similar policy as well. The ban was brought to the Ann Arbor City Council two years ago but did not have enough support to pass. However, the efforts by city officials and passionate members of the community to education citizens have been on-going. Common Good, Liberty The ban on idling was originally created to protect the common good of the people of Ann Arbor; idling contributes to harmful air pollution and has been linked to health issues so the entire community benefits when idling is stopped or at least put to a minimum. However, putting this ban into effect could mean that some individuals personal liberties are taken away, the right to keep your vehicle idle.
