Infinitive, Gerund or Both


In English, when two verbs come successively, the 1st Verb decides how the 2nd one should be: Infinitive, Gerund or Both cases are correct. - I need . (have) good friends (Need = 1st Verb / Have = 2nd Verb)

Look at the list of Verbs below and decide if Need must be followed by INFINITIVE or GERUND or BOTH: Agree ask expect manage attempt learn promise need neglect hope intend - plan Admit avoid dislike consider enjoy finish regret detest suggest - remember Begin continue like love try start prefer stop - hate INFINITIVE (+ to + V) GERUND (+ V + ing) BOTH (+ to + V) (+ V + ing)

According to the list, the verb NEED must be followed by INFINITIVE. So, - I need to have good friends. CORRECT - I need having good friends. INCORRECT
