Install QuickTime!

To use MPEG Streamclip in Windows XP and Vista, you have to download and install QuickTime, using one of the following installers (but NOT both!): - Apple QuickTime 7 free player, available here: http://www.apple.com/quicktime/download/

- KL QuickTime Alternative 1.81 - important: only version 1.81 is compatible with this version of MPEG Streamclip. QuickTime Alternative 1.81 is available here: http://www.filehippo.com/download_quicktime_alternative?2615

For DivX playback and encoding you have to install 3ivx (http://www.3ivx.com/) and make sure you have Windows Media Player 10 or higher. You can also use MPEG Streamclip in Windows 2000 and in Linux with WINE, but results are not guaranteed. Which QuickTime installer do I have to choose? Apple QuickTime 7 is the official distribution of QuickTime. This free installer is recommended, however it is a very large file (more than 20 MB) and it does not include MPEG-2 decoding (you have to buy the MPEG-2 playback component separately from Apple, for $19.99). KL QuickTime Alternative is a free unofficial distribution of QuickTime. It has a quite smaller installer (less than 15 MB) and includes MPEG-2 decoding in the "Extra QuickTime

plugins". When you install QuickTime Alternative for the first time, please use version 1.81, and be sure to enable the checkbox "Extra QuickTime plugins", otherwise the MPEG-2 decoder will not be installed. Later you can upgrade QuickTime Alternative to the latest version, if you wish. I have Apple iTunes or Apple QuickTime already installed, can I use QuickTime Alternative? You can replace Apple QuickTime with QuickTime Alternative without causing problems to iTunes. Just start the QuickTime Alternative installer, and choose to uninstall Apple QuickTime before installing QuickTime Alternative 1.81. If necessary for iTunes, you can install the latest version of QuickTime Alternative, but only after you installed QuickTime Alternative 1.81. MPEG Streamclip shows a green screen and freezes. What should I do? This may happen with some graphic cards (nVidia FX 5200/5500). In this case, go to your control panel, open QuickTime settings, select "Advanced" and, in Video settings, disable DirectDraw acceleration. Please do not disable DirectDraw, but only DirectDraw acceleration; keep DirectDraw enabled or MPEG Streamclip will not display the player. Read the User's Guide! The MPEG Streamclip Guide is provided in two formats (PDF ad RTF) with identical content. It describes the most important functions of MPEG Streamclip. Italian users will find a translated guide (RTF only) in the "International" folder. ____________________________________
