1971 Qantas got a Boeing 747-400 jumbo jet fleet making aircraft transport cheaper, faster and able

to carry more people than before. Rail travel was becoming more vital as cities became larger and people needed an easy way to get around.

Road construction was greatly increased. The National Highway Scheme 1974 built highways directly joining capital cities. This made road travel easier.

Number of cars doubled in 1970s. Were more popular as they became cheaper and petrol was easily affordable as well as how there was not much traffic.

However in mid 1970s with the world oil crisis petrol prices rose so popularity of cars decreased. To fix this environmental design rules were set out to make newer cars more environmentally sustainable.
