I think section 21 is a very interesting section to write about. I love the way you interpret it and explain how it has to do with creations and humans. As I read this section I also feel as though he is stating the equality of man and women. Whitman states "I am the poet of the women the same as the man, /And I say it is as great to be a woman as to be a man" This was unqique at this time for a man to be so sensitive about the woman and childbearing. He had respect for what women go through and an admiration for mothers probably his own. I agree with what you said he is very in tune with the world and appreciates what it gives.

Re: "Song of Myself" by Walt Whitman by Mary Williams - Wednesday, August 21, 2013, 11:30 PM Jennifer, Your analysis is very well summarized. I too, described Whitman's symbolism with nature and symbolism of mankind. I feel I probably overused the term of symbolism, but his ability to express relationship with nature seems very primative and organic. His display of love for himself, allowed him to express his love for women and all mankind. Very deep! Show parent | Reply

Jennifer, A good response. Slow down and interpret the lines a bit more. You have some great examples. Show parent | Reply
