Markets-Mid Session Aug 24,'09
Indian markets opened the day on a positive note aided by Asian peers who were
trading strong. Asian markets were up by about 1%-3% in the morning. Our markets
are up by more than 2%. All sectors saw good buying interest. Metals, realty,
technology, capital goods and auto were seen leading the rally.
The Nifty rose 93 points and moved up to 4622 and the Sensex was in the green by 324
points at 15564. The BSE Midcap is up by 124 points, while the BSE Smallcap index
has climbed up by about 145 points.
The US indices closed the day in the green, on Friday, on the back of better home sales
data and the rise in commodity prices. Dow Jones went up by close to 2 per cent to end
the day at 9505.96 while the S&P 500 Index touched its highest in 10 months by
climbing up about 2.2 per cent to settle at 1026.13. The Nasdaq Composite too rose
about 1.6 per cent to touch a 10-month high of 2020.90. The FTSE 100 went up by
about 2% on Friday, and closed the day at 4,850.89, a 10-month high.
