Washington: Pre-Conference Form Final

This pre-conference form provides a structure for meaningful conversation. This form is intended to be collaboratively completed by the teacher and administrator during the pre-conference.

1a: Demonstration Knowledge and Pedagogy


To which part of your curriculum does this lesson relate? Guided Reading How does this lesson incorporate the district-wide focus of either/or literacy and college and career readiness? The lesson will feature literacy enhanced with 21st century technology skills that are both valuable in college and the workplace.

1b: Demonstrating Knowledge of Students


How has this lesson been differentiated to meet the cognitive and developmental needs of all students? Every student has a their own personal independent reading goal based on their current MAP score and developed by the NWEA's descarte for skill building. What methods have you employed to gain an understanding of the individual students approaches to learning? Students are taught in whole group, small group, by their peers and one on one through conferencing. Students are engaged their technology and high-interest books. Students with special needs are given accomodations based on their IEP's.

1c: Setting Instructional Outcomes


What are your learning outcomes for this lesson? MAJORS: 5.RL.1: Quote accurately from a text when explaining what the text says explicitly and when drawing inferences from the text. 5.RL.5: Explain how a series of chapters, scenes, or stanzas fits together to provide the overall structure of a particular story, drama, or poem. MINORS: 5.SL.1: Engage effectively in a range of collaborative discussions (one-on-one, in groups, and teacher-led)

with diverse partners on grade 5 topics and texts, building on others ideas and expressing their own clearly. 5.RFS.4: Read with sufficient accuracy and fluency to support comprehension. 5.W.1: Write opinion pieces on topics or texts, supporting a point of view with reasons and information. How do these outcomes relate to prior or future learning? Each outcome is revisited and considered on-going throughout the year.

1e: Designing Coherent Instruction


How does this learning fit in the sequence of learning for this class? Students are working on independent reading goals based on their current RIT band to move to their next RIT band and help accomplish our goal of reaching our SLO for 2013-2014. How does this learning connect to other disciplines? Strongly supports technology and 21st Century Skills.

1f. Designing Student Assessments


How and when will you know whether the students have learned what you intend? Response are evaluated on MBC for student learning and through conferencing for independent reading goals.
