CAPT. J.O. CEJKA


Capt. Jerry O. CEJKA, 48, a Columbia river pilot for four years, died Thursday night at Good Samaritan
hospital following a two weeks illness with pneumonia. Captain CEJKA joined the pilots= association in 1944
after having served 25 years on river steamers operated by Western Transportation company. he held the war rank
of lieutenant-commander in the coast guard reserve.
Born in Bryan, Texas, CEJKA came to Portland about 32 years ago and shortly went to work as a
deckhand on river boats rising rapidly to master.
Survivors include the widow and his daughter, Miss Dolores CEJKA, both of 5914 S.E. 19th avenue;
three brothers, Capt. Amel CEJKA, present master of the Jean, and Leo and Louis, of San Diego, Cal.; and a sister,
Mrs. Mary BARTA, Fort Shaw, Mont.
The funeral will be held Monday.
