by High Representative Catherine Ashton following the meeting of the E3/EU +3 Nuclear al!s with "ran
Thanks for coming. I am very pleased to announce that after 4 intense days of negotiation we have reached an agreement between the international community and Iran on a joint plan of action. This historical nuclear agreement sets out a step by step process leading to a long-term comprehensive solution on that issue. It includes a first-step on initial reciprocal measures to be taken from both sides for a duration of six months. Through the implementation, which will be monitored by a joint ommission of !"#!$ % " and Iran, in close coordination with the I&!&, we demonstrate how serious we take the first step towards resolving the international communities concerns about the exclusively peaceful nature of the Iranian 'uclear (rogramme. The final step of a comprehensive solution, which the parties aim to conclude negotiating and commence implementing no more than one year after the adoption of the )oint (lan of &ction, will enable Iran to fully enjoy its right to nuclear energy for peaceful purposes under the relevant articles of the '(T in conformity with its obligations therein. & successful progress towards a comprehensive solution would produce the full lifting of all $' *ecurity ouncil resolutions, as well as multilateral and national sanctions related to Iran+s nuclear programme. ,et me underline that this is a remarkable agreement which was possibly thanks to a sense of mutual respect and a determination to find a way forward which is beneficial for all of usIt is a good example of the international community working together to resolve complicated issues. !specially the !$ has once again demonstrated the coherence of policy having ./ nations speaking with one voice.
