Additions strategy used

Provided accurate answers in handout

Branched the numbers apart to break them up by place value. For example, for 592+592, he first added 500+500, then 90+90, then 2+2. Was able to do this successfully with the thousands place too, breaking apart 1,184+1,184 the same way. Did most of her work on the scrap paper. Successfully broke numbers up by place value even up to 4,968, writing the problem as 8,000+1,800+120+16.

Fluently 1and 2-digit numbers and early 3-digit numbers.

Engaged and interested throughout lesson. Loved the independent work time. Students LOVED the text. They were extremely engaged and wanted to know what happened next. This is definitely a text that I would use again. Students seemed rushed during independent work, should have given them more time.

Fluently doubled past 3-digit numbers.

Did most of the work mentally. Wrote: 276,80 + 276,80 on his scrap paper (with commas like that). Branched off the numbers, trying to break them apart by place value. But did some of the addition wrong, like saying the value of the ten thousands place was 400, the value of the thousands place was 130, and the value of the hundreds place was 130 all of which are incorrect. Did most of the work mentally, only using scrap Answered correctly up to Day paper for the tens and ones place. For example, 14. Added incorrectly every when doubling 4,096, he used the scrap paper to day after that. figure out 96+96. He then was able to connect this with his mental addition of 4,000+4,000.

Answered correctly up to Day 8 then found 246 instead of 256. He was off by 100 in his next answer. Then, he added correctly for the next two days. Added correctly up to Day 9. Then incorrect twice, then correct once, then incorrect. She made a mistake early on, but realized it and went back and erased and re-worked her answers. Added correctly up to Day 10. Then incorrectly 3 times in a row. Then correct, then incorrect, then correct, then incorrectly twice.
