Chapter 12: The other social sciences and topics of special interest

Summary: This chapter begins by explain the importance of using anthropology inside the classroom. It then moves on to talk about the national standards in economics. The authors tell us that giving students instructional activities about psychology and sociology will help them learn about themselves and others better. The chapter ends by talking about how global education, environmental education and current events are very important to teach in social studies. What I believe will be helpful in the future: 1) Dont lump groups of people together. If a teacher presents a unit on the American Indian students will be left with the impression that all Native groups shared a common culture. (pg.301) 2) Students who participate in a dig will learn how knowledge of a past culture is pierced together from the available evidence. (pg. 302) 3) A key part of economic education is to prepare students for the work in the emerging information age. (308) Question: How can you design an anthropology for most lesson with a limited income? Assumptions: I really like the idea of getting into the activity we are learning about, so to learn about anthropology was really neat.
