McLure, Jason. "Genetically Modified Food." CQ Researcher. 22.30 (2012): n. page. Web.

Relevancy: I would use this to show some statistics on how much our society relies on the most popular crops. Authority: It includes authority from reputable references from the opposing side, such as the North East Organic Farming Association. Accuracy: Retrieved article from Academic Database. Purpose: Specifically I would pull this information out of the article to use in my paper. Currency: Article was written and gives statistics from 2012 The use of GM crops has become widespread among U.S. growers of commodities, or big crops sold on futures exchanges. Eighty-eight percent of corn and 94 percent of cotton, for example, came from GM strains in 2012. Glazer, Sarah. "Rising Food Prices." CQ Researcher. 5.22 (2011): n. page. Web. 18 Nov. 2013. Relevancy: I really like this site because it explains why GMOs are so important. Authority: It states that we are going to need to produce a lot more food in the year 2050 but on the same amount of land. Accuracy: It gives sort of an outline for the need of better yields in the years to come. Purpose : I like that the first paragraph is about centered on a different country, bringing diversity to the paper. I would tie in to the fact that the U.S. is a major exporter of agricultural products. Accuracy: Retrieved from an academic database. Currency: Article was written in 2011 Global food prices reached record highs early this year, sending millions around the world into poverty and contributing to starvation in East Africa.

Koch, K. (1998, September 4). Food safety battle: Organic vs. biotech. CQ Researcher, 8, 761784. Relevancy: This article shows both positive and negative facts about GMOs. Authority: The main person interviewed was corporate CEO Gene Kahn, a strong activist for organic farming. Not only does it reference the CEO, but it also uses information from the U.S. government. Purpose: When writing a research paper you usually have to acknowledge a counter argument, that is what I would use this site for. Accuracy: Quotes the U.S. Government. Currency: 1998. Not very current but still has some good information. I could use the older information to my benefit by showing how much more information has become available. The U.S. government has declared that genetically engineered foods are as safe as foods developed through hybridization, but critics have doubts about the safety and need for transgenic, or genetically altered, crops.

Clemmitt, M. (2008, June 27). Global food crisis. CQ Researcher, 18, 553-576. Relevancy: This article shows shocking and attention grabbing statistics about mal nourishment across the world (see quote below) Authority: The writer pulls a lot of her opinion from numbers and statistics. Accuracy: Retrieved from an academic database. Purpose : Once again it shows diversity and how important it is for the united states to keep being a leader in agriculture. Currency : I do wish that the article was a little more recent than 2008. In North Korea, for example, where 35 percent of the population is undernourished, the price of the major food staple, rice, soared 186 percent, and overall food prices rose 70 percent.
