GAINESVILLE POLICE DEPARTMENT NEWS RELEASE

Arrest made in Homicide CR # 12-22156


The Gainesville Police Department has identified the deceased as Robert L Dockens, black male, 9/25/52, of th Gainesville. Dockens died as a result of a stab wound in the early morning hours of Friday, October 26 , 2012. Gainesville Police Investigators identified and arrested Clifton Rae Baxter, white male, 8/14/79 and have charged him with First Degree Murder. Baxter is a resident of Dothan, AL and reportedly travels back and forth to the Orlando area for family. Local businesses were extremely helpful in identifying Baxter. The investigation has revealed that Dockens and Baxter are acquaintances and got into an altercation over money. Baxter and Dockens arrived to the area of 1116 W University Avenue in the same vehicle. It is believed that during the altercation Baxter stabbed Dockens in the chest. Dockens fled the area on foot suffering from his stab wound th then collapsed on SW 12 St, just south of West University Avenue. Baxter then pulled his van around to where Dockens collapsed, and began rifling through Dockens pockets, stealing his wallet. Baxter fled the area and returned to Dothan, AL. GPD Investigators secured an arrest warrant and contacted Dothan, AL Police Department who arrested Baxter. Baxter is still being held in the Dothan, AL area under $500,000 bond, but will be eventually extradited to the Alachua County Jail. GPD has collected knives from Baxter, but it is unknown if they are the Murder weapon. Additionally, GPD is seeking whoever was driving a black pickup truck (possibly a Chevrolet Avalanche) that th evidently stopped and spoke to Baxter during the early morning hours of the 26 .
