Meet Mr. Jefferson

My name is Jarod Jefferson and I am very grateful to have your son or daughter in my class this year. As you may already know, I am a first-year teacher. Please, be patient with me, for I will be learning every day just like my students. I have a fiery passion for school and learning, which drives me to become a successful teacher. Some of my hobbies include fishing, hunting, and sports. I enjoy the outdoors, and I could think of a better area to teach and live! I am a Yellville-Summit alumni and this school is very close to my heart. There is nothing more I would like to see than this school and its students succeed in and out of the classroom. If you have any questions, do not hesitate to contact me. You may reach me by my e-mail (found on the bottom of this page) or by contacting the office.

The Importance of Sleep to a Middle School Student

Sleep has a big impact on health. Kids and teens need enough sleep to help them grow, ward off sickness, think clearly and remember things, and fend off bad moods. Recently there has also been research focused on whether getting enough sleep can help kids keep their weight within healthy ranges. Some studies have shown that kids who don't get enough sleep -- especially younger kids and boys -- may have a greater risk of being overweight. According to the National Sleep Foundation, a middle school student needs anywhere from 8-11 hours of sleep every night. A parent can ensure that their child gets the proper amount of sleep each night. Being consistent with bedtime and rising is a good way to get into a routine. For example, allowing your kid to sleep until noon on Sundays makes it a lot harder for them to go to bed on time Sunday night. Even just thirty minutes of extra sleeping time a night can benefit them in the long run.

I believe that a newsletter would be a fantastic communication school in my classroom. In this particular newsletter, I directed my attention to the parents of the students. Although a newsletter would benefit students and parents alike, I feel like the parents would benefit more from the newsletter. It would be a great tool to inform parents of exactly what their kids are achieving in the classroom. In my newsletter, I also included important school events to keep parents informed of events of consideration on campus. I learned a lot from using Word to design a newsletter. Sometimes it was not easy to arrange text boxes and pictures to be exactly where you wanted them. I learned that by grouping multiple items such as pictures and texts, you are ab le to move them at the same time. This way, it is easier to move whole portions of the page at one time versus moving each item one at a time. I do not think I would have done anything different if I had to design another newsletter. I feel confident that the newsletter will serve as a great communication platform amongst parents, students, and myself. Since my newsletter will be directed toward parents, students could also use the newsletters in order to keep up with important dates inside the classroom and on campus.
