Jennah Jones Story Journal 1 My first and overall impression of Ehrenreichs narrative is that Wal-Mart seems like a hellish

place to work. Ehrenreichs use of detail and description of her emotions made me think about something that I usually brush off; the work that goes into maintaining stores like WalMart. It hadnt crossed my mind how truly frustrating and demanding department store work could be. Of course, there is more than one side to every story, but Ehrenreichs narrative really makes you think about certain working environments, and the potential damaging effect they can have on attitude and psyche. Zaitchiks narrative on the border crossing simulation is both informative and astounding. It is hard to believe that such a serious issue to the U.S. and Mexico has been turned into a tourist attraction. To an extent it is almost morbid, and insulting; making an attraction of the migrants hardships, even going as far as simulating rape. At the same time, the point of the simulation is understandable. It is good that there is an attempt to make a connection between Mexicos middle-class and poor. Giving them that understanding could help unify the country, or at least push them a step in the right direction. Poes narrative of The Tell-Tale Heart was strange, to say the least. What I thought was very interesting about was that the character attempted to convince the audience that he wasnt mas. However, he ended up showing that he was nothing but by describing the ways in which he cleverly murdered a man, and only because of his eye.
