This area is highly conservative, in both the cities and the surrounding country side. Many active churches are present, which contributes to the conservative views of the district. Education/Career- Graduated from Mississippi State University, started political career as a Tennessee State Senator in 1998, was elected to represent District 7 in 2002. She is a professional politician. Ideology/Voting Record- Blackburn is a conservative. She has opposed many pushes made by liberals, such as the Affordable Care Act and debates on abortion. She is considered to be a top house conservative. Elections- When Blackburn ran for the District 6 position, she lost to Bart Gordon in 1992. However, since switching districts in 2002, Blackburn has won every time, and she has won by huge margins, often times winning close to 70% of the votes, making her hugely popular in the Middle-Tennessee area. She is also very successful with raising funds, getting support from big names like FedEx and Koch Industries. PAC support- Supported by FedEx, Koch Industries, AT&T, Verizon and many others. For the 2014 cycle. Blackburn has raised (so far) $235,546. Blackburns votes in congress are often profree-market. She also fights Obamacare and tries to delay it. Overall, Marsha Blackburn is a successful representative of her district because she represents her people very well. She is well liked by her constituents and has very similar views on political and social issues with those in her area. With her record thus far, Blackburn will most likely win her next election in November.
