Horizontal lines promote feelings of peace, relaxation, calmness, and restfulness. This
room has an abundance of shelving, as well as a desk. Libraries are often associated with
calmness and peace.
Vertical lines are associated with strength, dignity, formality, permanence, and stability.
Vertical lines are meant to draw the eye upwards. In this room vertical lines are shown in
the bookcases, ladder, window, desk legs, and books.
Curved lines soften a look, and tend to have a natural, soothing, and flowing effect. In
this picture, curves are present in the table legs, decorative items on shelves, and the
structure of the chairs.
