Ms. Scarry started at the Smartboard with some information about artifacts from the Lakota tribe. She then had the students do a walkabout. They had 6 stations. They had to go from station to station and fill in a worksheet about Lakota life. Ms. Scarry had printed photos from the internet of actual Indians so that the student could see what they really looked like. They returned to their desks and shared what kind of work the Lakotas did, what kind of homes they had, what was their transportation, and what contributions they had made. When a student asked a question Ms. Scarry did not know, she assured the student she would look it up and get back to him. Students will be drawing pictures to go with their findings during the next class. While the students were packing up, Ms. Scarry played authentic Lakota music. I thought this lesson went very well. The students were on task and learning a lot of information in a short period of time on the Lakotas. She also did a great comparison of the Lakotas and another Indian tribe.
