Brochure
Course: COMM 130 Instructor: Julie Peterson Date: December 8, 2013 Description: For my Project 8 Brochure, I used Adobe InDesign, Photoshop, and Illustrator to make a brochure for a company that I created. Objectives: Set up and align a two-sided, folded document. Create an original company logo and use it in a brochure. Incorporate quality images. Write at least 250 words of original copy with at least three paragraphs. Process: I started off in InDesign and created a layout for my brochure. Then I came up with my company name and began creating my original logo in Illustrator. I traced a bow using the Pen Tool and then added text to the logo. I added the logo to the brochure and then began adding text and design elements into my brochure. I also edited the photos I used in Photoshop so that I could put a TextWrap on them. It took a lot of hard work, but my brochure eventually came together. Programs/Tools Used: Adobe InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator

Course: COMM 130 Instructor: Julie Peterson Date: October 25, 2013 Description: You are in charge of creating a new and fresh inspirational poster using a composite of images and type Objectives: Learn to manage Photoshop layers. Learn to blend images together smoothly, using masks. Use filters. Apply appropriate typography. Choosing good quality images. Apply typography principles. Unifying a piece with a consistent theme. Process: I created an 118.5 document in Photoshop, then placed my two images into the document. After, I lowered the opacity of the picture of Christ and then used the mask tool to blend Christ into the sky. I used the clone tool to get rid of the unnecessary sign, used the sprayed strokes filter on a few of the trees. Then I added a Gaussian Blur effect on the photo for a more dramatic effect. Finally, I added text and then changed the text to Overlay. Programs/Tools Used: Adobe Photoshop

Course: COMM 130 Instructor: Julie Peterson Date: October 18, 2013 Description: A personal photograph taken with a Canon Powershot Camera and edited using Adobe Photoshop. Objectives: Learn basic photography skills. Use a digital camera to take a quality image, then download it. Size and crop the image. Use a selection tool to isolate a portion of the image. Desaturate the selected portion of the image. Use a filter or colorize a portion of the image. Process: I spent about an hour and a half taking various shots all around campus, but I was drawn back to the library because of all of the intriguing colors of its many books. Once I captured a picture that I liked, I uploaded onto my computer and began working on it in Photoshop. I used the Quick Selection Tool to select the bookwhich is the main focal point of my photograph. I made it more saturated. I added the Grain filter to it. I then changed the overall color balance of the photo and brightened it up a bit. Finally, I cropped the image and set it on a white background. Programs/Tools Used: Canon PowerShot Camera, Adobe Photoshop

Course: COMM 130 Instructor: Julie Peterson Date: December 13, 2013 Description: 3 original logos made with Adobe Illustrator. Objectives: Create a variety of logos to fit a company or personal image. Use only the tools of Illustrator. Setting up a professional display for the company. Arrange three logos on an 8.5 x 11 vertical page. Process: First, I sketched out my logos on a sheet of paper. Each logo varies, but I used the type tool and tested out different fonts and eventually found some that I liked. I used the star tool to create triangles for two of my logos. I played around with the colors and found complimentary colors. Finally, I aligned all of my logos and it was complete. Programs/Tools Used: Adobe Illustrator

Objectives: Use The basic tools of Illustrator. Design consistent layouts for a business card and letterhead. Use your new logo to design two stationery items with consistent design. Learning to keep thing simple by having watermarks and drop shadows light and white space. Process: First created an original logo. Then I placed that logo on a business card, added triangle elements, and then included my companys information. I added rectangles to the backside of my business card to add a pop of color. After my designs were completed, I exported them to be JPEGs. Programs/Tools Used: Adobe Illustrator

I created a letterhead for my company, Tri I made this letterhead by creating rectangles and filling them in with black. Then I added a watermark to the bottom of my page. Course: COMM 130 Instructor: Julie Peterson Date: October 4, 2013 Description: Black and white promotional flier to promote a leadership conference. Objectives: Apply the design principles and use appropriate typography. Incorporate basic InDesign skills to improve basic flier layout. Retrieve image and logo from links on this page. Create a project folder with image, logo and InDesign document to keep links intact. Process: First, I created a number sketches for my flier. I then chose what elements I liked in my sketches and added those into my flier. I added contrast in the heading by using two boxes. I made my heading the focus point and then made it so the viewers eyes flow down into the rest of the text. I added eye-catching elements that I hoped would draw the viewer in and want to learn more about the conference. Programs/Tools Used: Adobe InDesign

Course: COMM 130 Instructor: Julie Peterson Date: October 11, 2013 Description: A full-bleed event flyer made with Microsoft Word and a Scanner. Objectives: Find, scan and import a high-quality image. Create a full-bleed design Use text boxes for layout in Word. Insert and edit images in Word. Process: First I went through multiple magazines until I found one that worked for my event idea. I then scanned the high-quality image and added it to my flyer. I added the details of the event such as date, place, time, the title, subtitle, etc. I played around with the colors until I found a color scheme that I was satisfied with. Once I had completed my first draft, I received feedback from my fellow classmates. They gave me a few suggestions in order to improve my flyer. I made the necessary changes and then the project was complete. Programs/Tools Used: Microsoft Word, Epson Scanner, PDF2JPG.net (PDF converter)

Course: COMM 130 Instructor: Julie Peterson Date: November 23, 2013 Description: A web page I designed using my newly learned HTML and CSS skills. Objectives: Design a web page using HTML to display the logo and content. Acquire a working knowledge of HTML. Acquire a working knowledge of CSS. Identify hex colors for web design. Compress multiple files in a zipped folder to attach as one file. Process: First, I created my logo. Second, I learned the basics of HTML and used them to my advantage. Then I input my information into my web page. I chose a yellow background and a black header to compliment the colors of my logo. Finally, I took a screenshot of my webpage.
