Dear students and families, Let us start by introducing ourselves.

Our names are Catherine Mitchko and Joanna Yuhas. Miss Mitchko is in her final year at The College of New Jersey and will graduating as an elementary education and history major. Miss Yuhas is also in her final year at The College of New Jersey and will be graduating as an elementary education and math/science/technology major. We have had such an amazing experience working with your children so far this year and we want to thank you so much for the opportunity to work with them! They have taught us so much already and hopefully, they have learned a little something from us as well. As a culminating project for our student teaching this semester, we have been working hard to develop a unit that we will be teaching over ten days beginning November 20 and ending December 6. Our unit topic is habitats and we have been planning many fun and interesting ways to teach your children about the topic. We have split it up so that the students will be learning about four main habitats: oceans, wetlands, deserts, and forests. The first day of our unit will be focused on the living and nonliving aspects of a habitat, which is something they will keep in mind as we study the four habitats more in depth. To go along with this unit, students will work on a project at home. On the first day of the unit, students will be assigned a habitat and they will have to create a diorama for that habitat in a shoebox. Along with this letter, you will receive a project description as well as a rubric, which will indicate how we will be grading the project. Please help your children follow the rubric carefully. The project will be due on December 5, 2013. The final day of our unit will be used to share their dioramas. On that final day, we will have a guest speaker come and talk about the importance of habitats for the animals that live there. The speaker is an expert on creating habitats for animals and will bring much insight and experience to share with your students. The rest of the science period that day will be set up like a museum in which students may walk around and look at other students work. As we have stated previously, we love working with your children and we thank you for the opportunity. Estimados estudiantes y familias , Vamos a empezar por presentarnos . Nuestros nombres son Catherine Mitchko y Joanna Yuhas . Srta. Mitchko est en su ltimo ao en la Universidad de Nueva Jersey y se gradu como la educacin primaria y de la historia principal . Srta. Yuhas tambin est en su ltimo ao en la Universidad de Nueva Jersey y se graduar como la educacin primaria y matemticas / ciencia / tecnologa importante. Hemos tenido una experiencia increble trabajar con sus nios lo que va del ao y queremos darle las gracias tanto por la oportunidad de trabajar con ellos! Ellos nos han enseado mucho ya y espero , que han aprendido algo de nosotros tambin. Como proyecto final de la enseanza de nuestros estudiantes este semestre , hemos estado trabajando duro para desarrollar una unidad que vamos a estar enseando a lo largo de diez das a partir del 20 de noviembre y termina el 6 de diciembre. Nuestro tema de la unidad es hbitats y hemos estado planeando muchas formas divertidas y interesantes para ensear a sus hijos sobre el tema. Hemos dividirlo para que los alumnos van a aprender acerca de cuatro hbitats principales : los ocanos , humedales , desiertos y bosques. El primer da de nuestra unidad se centrar en los aspectos vivos y no vivos de un hbitat , que es algo que va a tener en cuenta al estudiar los cuatro hbitats con mayor profundidad . Para ir junto con esta unidad , los estudiantes trabajarn en un proyecto en casa. En el primer da de la unidad , los estudiantes se les asignar un hbitat y van a tener que crear un diorama de ese hbitat en una caja de zapatos. Junto con esta carta, usted recibir una descripcin del proyecto , as como una rbrica , que indicar cmo seremos de calificaciones del proyecto. Por favor, ayude a sus hijos siguen el rubro cuidado. El proyecto ser debido el 5 de diciembre de 2013. El ltimo da de nuestra unidad se puede utilizar para compartir sus dioramas . Ese ltimo da , vamos a tener un invitado venir a hablar sobre la importancia de los hbitats de los animales que viven all. El que habla es un experto en la creacin de hbitats para animales y traer mucho conocimiento y experiencia para compartir con sus estudiantes . El resto del periodo de la ciencia que da se estableci como un museo en el que los estudiantes pueden caminar y ver el trabajo de otros estudiantes . Como hemos dicho anteriormente , nos encanta trabajar con los nios y les damos las gracias por la oportunidad.
