True Romance (1993) (18) 73/100 ***

Starring: Christian Slater, Patricia Arquette, James Gandolfini, Dennis Hopper, Samuel L. Jackson, Val Kilmer, Gary Oldman, Chris Penn, Brad Pitt, Michael Rapaport, Saul Rubinek, Tom Sizemore, Christopher Walken. Directed By: Tony Scott Screenplay By: Quentin Tarantino The First time I watched True Romance, I found I wasnt enjoying it. I thought that it was a morally empty & smug film that was just showing off its star studded cast. I also feel this way about some other works of Tarantinos (From Dusk Till Dawn, Kill Bill Volume 1-2, Death Proof & Inglorious Basterds). I still feel the same about all of these (with the exception of Inglorious Basterds), but I now see True Romance as something more than just an ultra-violent, exploitative blockbuster. It is a film that shows the extreme lengths two people will go to preserve their love & how oblivious they are of everything & everyone around them. It definitely isnt Tarantinos best work, but is certainly worth a watch. Its just good fun.
