It is likely that the Ukraine will join the Russian led Customs Union also known as the Eurasian Union which is similar to the EU but is ultimately led by Russia. Protests will worsen because they are already an estimated half a million strong and at least 260 have been injured. The protest is the biggest since the Orange Revolution.
The Orange Revolution was a series of protest that occurred because the 2004 presidential election between Viktor Yuschchenko and Viktor Yanukovych was rigged, due to tampered votes and voter intimidation The Orange Revolution led to a revote in which Yuschchenko won
The EU has offered, as part of the trade agreement, trade with Europe with 35% less tariffs, but the Ukraine would have to create 350 laws and the EU will have to draft 200,000 pieces of legislation. The EU has also offered 1 billion dollars as economic aid to the Ukraine. However the Ukraine owes 60+ billion dollars which is a third of their GDP. After signing the agreement the Ukraine would lose their trade with Russia further damaging the already weakened economy. If the agreement is signed Russia estimated that the Ukraines immediate losses with be about 35 billion Euros
Russia has offered Ukraine membership in the Eurasian Customs Union, which is similar to the EU except in the fact that it is Russian led. Membership in the Eurasian Customs Union would also include military cooperation, something the EU hasnt offered. Russia has also included as part of the deal possibly lower gas prices
