6 2 December 2013 The Heart Breaking, Brave Man: John Proctor.

The crucible by Arthur miller. Salem Massachusetts, 1692. Someones mowing the grass and quick they capture someone who had done something wrong you go in to court and they ask you to begin what you saw, now figure out if you saw the guy that was captured would you tell if he was innocent or not? Seems tricky when you have one side with proof and you go with him to the curtain or you disagree and you get to be suspected. Tell me is this a fraud or not? John proctor was known as a local farmer, living by the outside of town. Who was strict, harsh, and upright because of him it led to courage and braveness on how he had presented his unjust and unfair trial. I learned that if you struggle and to hold the truth catastrophe and curiosity will be noticed. Proctor finds out that Abigail is out to get Elizabeth, which she will get proctor for herself. Then proctor brings Mary warren to give proof that Elizabeth is innocent. Instead Mary warren flips it over and he is the one that gets prosecuted. Knowing that he just made a sin and is innocent but instead he confesses and dies.

John Proctor had held a behavior that was assertive and stern which he was mostly known as a well hearted trusting and noble man yet he had a sin that would devastate him and the ones around him. He was the kind of man-powerful of body, even tempered, and not easily ledwho cannot refuse support to partisans without drawing their deepest resentment. In proctors presence a fool felt his foolishness instantly-and a proctor is always marked for calumny therefore.(Act I, pg.144). He was aware that he had enemies and was aware also feared of the Salem witch trials because he didnt want to be persecuted especially in his condition. Even for the sin that he had done people know him as an honest and protecting man whom people go for yet they see something suspicious and find out that they had heard of the girls dancing in the woods.Proctor (his smile widening). Ah, youre wicked yet, arent y! (A trill of expectant laughter escapes her, and she dares come closer, feverishly looking into his eyes.)Youll be clapped in the stocks before youre twenty.Proctor knows that he still has a feeling for Abigail just when Elizabeth had booted her out, and now Abigail seeks her revenge on Elizabeth. Proctor also doesnt see the Salem witch trials is out to prosecute whoever is suspicious and called up by the girls, he is aware that Abigail and the girls had been dancing in the woods but what he didnt know is that Abigail had took a glass of blood to bewitch Elizabeth. So now Parris isnt with proctor and names are out in the like Proctors wife which leads to mistrust when she figures something about Proctor. John proctor had a good self-esteem of pride, but what no one knew was his affair with a 17 year old witch named Abigail. Who makes him look weak inside for a

sin that he committed and also not going to church for twenty six times in seven months brought suspicion when Hale had asked if he could repeat the Ten Commandments. Hale. And you, Mister? Proctor (a trifle unsteadily). I-am sure I do, sir. Hale (glances at her open face, then at john, then). Let you repeat them, if you will. Proctor the Commandments. Hale. Aye. Proctor (looking off, beginning to sweat. Thou shall not kill.(Act II, 545-552,pg.168-169) For instance you hear that hale asked proctor if he knew the commandments and he answer by saying well sure I do but once he begins to say the first one he starts slowly and sweaty by his palms, significantly seeing that just by saying the first one he was off guard or he might not say it because he actually did it. Matter of fact he did commit a sin which was adultery, he knew what was wrong and if any knew about this he would be devastated, weak and the mood would be tense making him feel upset for something that he did wrong and known that he would get prosecuted.

Proctor then reveals his sin which was an affair with Abigail .he knew that if he held it back things would just get worse not only did he do it for him but he mostly did it for his goody wife , he didnt want her to be near the trial or get hanged. He showed goodness, braveness that he would face any trial just for his wife in order for her to be safe which led him committing that he had done adultery and is known as a lecher.

Governor Danforth was paled with horror for the way proctor was talking about Abigail ,he said that Danforth would see one day how she really is not only because proctor was weeping but he also repeated many times to forgive him and that Abigail holds a revenge in his wife. Proctor tells that he will confess to them but notices that everything is a lie. Nobody should be hanged, nobody should have their name in the document, everythings done to the point where he is getting prosecuted and be hanged because he has some craft to deal with the devil, and trying to find how hes innocent but turns out that the document is for the people in Salem village to know who has worked or developed with the evil and feels that he isnt worthy because of how many lies he has put out in the world. Proctor. No, no. I have signed it. You have seen me, it is done! You have no need for this. Parris. Proctor, the village must have proof that- Proctor. Damn the village! I confess to God, and God has seen my name on this! It is enough! Dan forth. No, sir, it is- Proctor. You came to save my soul, did you not? Here! I have confessed myself, it is enough! Danforth. You have not con- Proctor. I have confessed myself! Is there no good penitence but it be public? God does not need my name nailed upon the church! God sees my name; God knows how black my sins are! It is enough!(Act IV, 685-697, pg.207). Danforth proceeds to have proctor sign the confession, but he refuses making himself state that even though if I sign it or not the village will now know either way hes already shameful that he is by now confessing to all the lies he has made. Now god has his eyes wide open seeing who is doing right and wrong and

to proctor he feels as if hes going down into the black hole just by saying my sins are black and its enough, it seems that he doesnt want to reach a level that hurts him the most of inside his soul.Proctor (he clamps his jaw from weeping.)A man may think god sleeps, but God knows everything. God help me, I lusted, and there is a promise in such sweat. But it is a whores vengeance, and you must see it; I set myself entirely in your hands. I know you must see it now. Therefore before he gets prosecuted they bring his wife out to indicate if she knew what was going on, she lies but things are still thriving for Mr. Proctor, he then gets prosecuted but still has his wife in restrain and is being chained until he gets further notice of what will be determined to happen for him and her. In Act 1 Abigail had told john that they were only having a party in the woods but john knew what was really going on in their witch circle. In Act 2 prosecuted and wanting to

proctor finds out that his wife Elizabeth had been

know who put her in the trial. In Act 3 the governor finds out that proctor had made a sin that was one of the commandments. Last, Act 4 proceeds by sending john proctor into the ropes and hanging not only him but Rebecca nurse which all they were was innocent people accused of working with the devil. John proctor had an affair with Abigail Williams who was only seventeen and still had a thing for him yet he lets that go when he finds out that they put her wifes name Elizabeth in the trial, it devastated him that he demanded proof so once he entered the court he determine that he would confess his sin, so they prosecuted him and he was off to be killed leaving him no pride but suffering in his innocence. As a result john proctor had pride into getting killed he said how everybody will see, he told truth but what was really his legacy is he was innocent in any way, but he did do a sin then he committed that what he done was wrong leaving him weak, all he asked for his name not be spoken about him because has seen what hes done and no one else needs to know.
