Tyree English III, Per 6 2 December 2013 Atlas of the Crucible The Crucible is written by Arthur Miller, who portrays a character named John Proctor. John is a farmer in his mid to late thirties. Mr. Proctor is a very hard worker and is married to a young woman named Elizabeth Proctor, but soon has an affair with another young woman named Abigale Williams. Speak the truth and the truth will set you free. John Proctor is a young man looking out for Women. He loves Abigale but yet he does not at the same time. Now, even though he is already Married; that is why is known to be a secret sinner. Located on lines 411-414 in Act 1 on page 145 Abigale says John- I am waiting for you every night. And then proctor says Abby, I never give you hope to wait for me. To me, this sounds like an argument over each other and lies that have been spread around heard by others to each other. There is a bit of physical and verbal abuse toward each other. John Proctor is the one doing the beatings. Line 463 in Act 1 on Page 146 John says, (shaking her Do you look for a Whippin? This here is a threat sent out to Abigale Williams from John Proctor. This threat soon becomes a Physical Brutality, where John Proctor beats her. After this all occurs, Abigale storms back into Betty Parris bedroom where she does not awake. Right after the controversy between Proctor and Abby, Abby storms back into Betty Parris bedroom and scorns Betty to stop this foolishness. On line 890 on page 156 Abigale says I didnt see no Devil! (shaking Betty) Betty wake up. Betty! Betty! As we already know, Betty is faking being under a spell. So in order to get out of this entanglement, Abigale Says see saw

Garcia 2 Tituba Speaking with the Devil. On line 880 on Page 156, Abigale says, I never called him! Tituba, Tituba In other words. Abigale is blaming others in order for her not to get caught. At this point Tituba is surprised by what Abigale just said. Tituba is confronted by Hale and is told to Wake this child. Tituba replies by saying I have no power on this child, sir. Soon after, all of the girls began to know what Abigale was doing so to be like her, they all started to put the blame on others no matter what age. All girls along with Giles Corey advanced to the direction of the court. They all argued back and forth, throwing blasphemy to each other. This is an example of falsehood, when one person; it ends up throwing the entire relationship with each other off. If everyone were just to confess, the punishments and arguments would have ended in a light note.
